“I love you...almost as much as I love myself!”
The first time my husband said this to me, in his playful, I’m totally joking way, I cracked up laughing. It’s not exactly the most romantic line a girl wants to hear! But self-love to the point of actually putting yourself first makes a lot of sense and now we both embrace it!
Loving yourself means accepting yourself. Accepting yourself equals happiness and when your happy meter is high, you are better for your kids, spouse, friends, coworkers, and even strangers!
When you love yourself, you will treat yourself with more compassion. Girl, your body is a temple - be nice to it with foods that don’t come in a box! Don’t forget to add a little movement to your day. You’ll drive your kids to every sporting event in town so give yourself 30 minutes to stretch, walk, run, or whatever you like to do to get that heart-rate pumping. It’s not selfish to give your body and mind the fuel it needs to be successful. Plus, healthy food and exercise combat anxiety and depression.
Has stress been getting the better of you lately? There’s an antidote for that. You guessed it...self love! Think of stress as your little voice telling you it needs some lovin. There’s a park at the top of the hill in my neighborhood with a fantastic view of the valley below. When I’m feeling stress creep in, I take a little walk over to the park, find the furthest bench with the best view, and take it all in. I’ve had some good crys on that bench - but I leave feeling more focused, more able, like I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be. Whether it’s nature, cruising around with your favorite playlist on full blast, or having lunch with a good friend, give yourself that time and don’t for one second feel guilty about it!
If you’re not in the habit of loving yourself first, it’s time to make a change. Don’t start tomorrow or next week. Put yourself first starting right here in this moment. Be intentional.
With all the self-love in your life, you’ll feel like you have superpowers! Say goodbye to procrastination, stress, and negative mindsets and hello to the more confident, capable you. You are unstoppable! I promise you, these feelings will trickle down into every aspect of your life and you’ll have more love to give to those special people around you.
Love yourself fiercely.
